Gigaba’s Tailored Suits Paid For By Guptas

Former Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba reportedly bought his tailor-made suits with money that he received from the Gupta family.

Gigaba’s personal driver, whose identity was not revealed, testified in front of the commission of inquiry into state capture on Thursday afternoon. His testimony to Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo shed light on secret trips to the Gupta’s Saxonwold compound, after which Gigaba would often buy suits for himself in Sandton.

“One day I was with the minister [Gigaba] when he opened the boot to take out money to buy us lunch. Inside the boot there was a sports bag he opened and there was a stack of R200 notes,” the witness said, according to DispatchLIVE. “He used to pay cash for his tailored suits in Sandton.”

The unscheduled visits, which Gigaba ordered were not to be recorded, according to the witness. He also claims that he saw former Eskom and Transnet CEO Brian Molefe, another former Eskom executive, Matshela Koko, as well as former chairperson of the SABC and Eskom, Ben Ngubane during his visits to the compound. The big, yet unsurprising revelation was that he also saw former President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, on the premises.

“On one occasion I saw Mr Brian Molefe, Matshela Koko [and] Ben Ngubane within the premises as well. There was on one occasion the president of the republic Mr Jacob Zuma leaving the premises as we arrived,” he said.

The driver was the third witness to testify in the The Zondo Commission of Inquiry into allegations of State Capture on Thursday, as the case against various public office holders under Jacob Zuma’s presidency between 2009 and 2018 builds up.

Malusi Gigaba is well known for the flashy suits that he wears and the opulent lifestyle that he lives; and his abuse of power is only the starting point in a major operation that involved the alleged de facto appropriation of South Africa’s state apparatus by the infamous Gupta family and others.
