Two Men Set Alight & Beheaded After Durban Drug Kingpin’s Death

Two Durban men have been beheaded after being set on fire in response to their alleged involvement in an earlier incident with reputed drug kingpin, Yaganathan Pillay, was shot to death in his home on Monday.

Pillay’s death was the latest in a series of gang-related shootings in Kwa-Zulu Natal. And, according to Daily Maverick, these gangs also operate with crime networks from other provinces, such as the Western Cape, and potentially international organised crime operations.

Pillay, also known as Teddy Mafia, was visited by armed men at 2pm on Monday, as per his daughter’s account, and shot twice in the head while she was in another part of the house in Shallcross.

“Upon arrival of the suspects at their home, the daughter proceeded to the back of their property where she heard gunshots,” police spokesperson Jay Naicker said, before explaining that a large crowd had gathered in response to Pillay’s murder. “The community apprehended both suspects and they set them alight, thereafter beheading the both of them”.

Citizens also reportedly opened fire on the police when they arrived at the scene. And this incident where the Durban men were beheaded was not the first time that the community had attacked the police in Durban, after roughly 200 people interfered with a drug raid in 2019 in the same street that Pillay lived in.
