The world is in mourning after learning of the death of former LA Lakers star, Kobe Bryant, who was killed in a helicopter accident, along with his daughter and seven other people in Calabasas, California on Sunday.
The United States, in its entirety, seems to have come to a standstill after the loss of the NBA legend and the rest of the world mourns with them. Bryant, who was only 41, was travelling in a private helicopter when it came down and burst into flames in an accident in which there were no survivors, as reported by The New York Times.
Bryant’s 20 season long basketball career with the Lakers saw him secure legendary status and he is the fourth higher scorer of all time in the league. He won five NBA titles, was an 18 time NBA All-Star, and won two Olympic gold medals with Team USA. He will undoubtedly be regarded as one of the finest point guards in history.
Messages of support to the Bryant family and tributes were sent out by celebrities, sport stars and public figures and organisations from all over the world.
By far the most emotional post of them all came from Bryant’s long-time teammate and friend, Shaquille O’Neal:
The Essential Millennial team is deeply saddened by the death of a sports legend and global role-model. Our deepest condolences go out to the Bryant family and Kobe’s millions of friends and fans around the world.
